8 New B2B Video Content Marketing Trends

The “play” button is the most compelling action on the web.

This is the sentiment that started the Vidyard Ignite conference – the first-of-its-kind event specifically designed to address the issues that B2B marketers face when it comes to creating video.

While it’s well understood that video marketing is an extremely unique and valuable tactic to reach consumers effectively, marketers often feel paralyzed by the daunting task of creating useful videos.

Creating great video content isn’t easy, but these words of advice from some of the most prominent thought leaders in video marketing can help guide your strategy and point you toward high engagement (and ultimately sales) from your customers.

1. It’s About the Experience.

Consider a moment when you have been confronted with something you’ve never heard of. A deep-sea creature, let’s say, called the water bear.

Wikipedia is your friend, right?

Yes, but a video can really help give you a deeper understanding of the water bear’s extreme tactics. And it can do this very quickly.

“Video is the next best thing to being in person,” says Michael Litt, Founder of Vidyard, and that’s because it provides us with the feeling of being there and experiencing something first hand – even if, in this case, it’s actually a virtual experience.

How can you leverage these experiences in your business? Here are some ideas:

  • Give a virtual tour of your facilities to help people understand where your products come from.

  • Follow a worker down the assembly line for a “day-in-the-life” experience. Better yet, snap a GoPro to their head.

  • Do a screen cast of the inner workings of your software to show consumers what happens to their data and how it works.

2. People Love to Laugh.

B2B companies like to give the idea of “humor” in their marketing the brush-off.

“What about my stakeholders?”

“What if my target audience is elderly?”

“What if my CEO doesn’t get it?”

These are legitimate concerns. However, remember that old saying that laughter is the best medicine? It’s not unfounded. People of all ages and backgrounds can appreciate a chance to smile.

And it’s important to remember that you don’t have to go full-on comedy to make people laugh. It can be small moments of humor, like poking fun at yourself or at a common problem that customers have.

TimWasher.jpg

Here are a few ways to inject humor into your videos:

  • Make a cartoon that illustrates the super powers your product or service has

  • Develop a spoof on what happens to people if they don’t use your product

  • Create an FAQ page that includes video portrayals of exaggerated common customer mishaps and how to fix them

Which leads us to our next point…

3. Problem-Solving is Paramount.

People buy products and services because they want to solve a problem. That’s it.

Oakley digital marketing director, Scott Alexander, talked to us about customer-centric marketing (and yes, he also talked a little bit about sunglasses). But more than that, he explored why certain marketing sells and other marketing doesn’t. Oftentimes, the pieces of marketing that make a difference are the ones that offer a solution to a problem.

The problem could be as simple as, “I don’t want to have to squint when I’m surfing, but I’m afraid my sunglasses will fall off if I wear them.”

Oakley could make a short video that shows a surfer catching some waves without losing their eye protection. They could recreate this video with each one of their sport-specific products to show the actual solution in progress.

Now, that sort of video documentation is much more compelling than a text explanation of the technology. Some other ideas for problem solving with video marketing:

  • Shoot video interviews with happy clients or customers (remember, they don’t have to be long to be compelling)

  • Develop simple how-to videos for each and every step of your product implementation, especially if it’s a software program

  • Create a daily or weekly series that shows your company’s mascot experiencing daily life issues that are quickly solved with your product (the mascot could serve to combine humor AND problem-solving in one video)

4. Emotion Trumps Logic.

You may think that solving someone’s problem is enough to make people want to buy it. This is not the case. More than ever, people are finding personal and emotional connections with brands through their clever and thoughtful marketing.

They are often purchasing the more expensive, and potentially less-effective product simply because they like the message or the cause. This kind of loyalty is what marketers and business owners cherish, and a group of raving fans can open up a whole slew of other opportunities for your business.

Consider the idea that not every single one of your videos has to drive direct sales. Videos that drive emotional connection and loyalty can be just as valuable as the more traditional product-focused ones.

The things that go on behind the scenes are just as important as the things you sell to the world. Try this:

  • Send a film crew to your team’s annual 5K to document the fun spirit and dedication to fitness of your employees

  • If you participate in some sort of social good initiative, put together a PSA about the issues that your company feels passionate about

  • Develop a series of real-world issues, involving real people, that your product or technology has taken part in solving. See this GoPro example, which made me cry:

Notice that when you think about the emotional factors that drive sales, it may also spark some important discussion about your company’s values and culture. This is a good thing.

5. Looks Matter.

As with written content marketing, simply creating video content is not enough. The content needs to be useful, relevant, timely, and well done.

Ann Handley talks about this all the time in her writing, and especially in her new book, Everybody Writes. And the same rings true for video.

You must have a great writer, a great producer, and a great editor. This may mean creating a separate video team inside your marketing department or hiring an outside agency to help.

If you don’t think you have the budget for this, try working with your local college or university’s film students. They’ll be proud to provide their skills for free because they’ll relish the opportunity to learn from a real business. And they’ll do their best work in the hopes that their relationship with you could develop into a full-time job after graduation.

First impressions are everything. If someone stumbles upon a video that looks amateur or doesn’t capture their attention right away, they’ll move on to the millions of other videos out there. Which is a great segue to our next point…

6. Competition is Everywhere.

scottalexander2.jpg

Like any other industry, video started out with a few companies, a few YouTube personalities, and has now grown into an industry where any kid with a smartphone can gain massive success with their tutorials on how to play video games.

When it comes to competition, it’s no longer about the companies that make similar products or services as you. It’s about anyone with access to a video camera.

Don’t let yourself become content with making better videos than the other businesses in your industry. Instead, consider that over one hundred hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. People could watch literally any video they want. Why will they want to want to watch yours?

Make it a part of your strategy to watch the trending videos on YouTube at least weekly. It will likely provide you and your team with a good laugh, but it will also keep you sharp on the YouTube trends and tactics that are causing high volumes of views. It’s also worthwhile to check out the YouTube Creator Playbook for YouTube’s strategic guide on how to grow and optimize your channel.

7. End “Random Acts of Content.”

This idea reminds me of Laura’s post yesterday about reusing your old, forgotten content for good. And it’s an important point to remember with all types of content, not just written content.

Don’t create videos just for the sake of creating them or because everyone else is. They won’t be successful and you’ll only feel frustrated. Instead, develop a strategy just as you would an integrated marketing strategy.

And as you develop this video strategy, think about how else you can use your videos to boost the engagement in your other marketing. Always be asking yourself, “Why am I doing this? So what?”

For example:

  • Take a promotional video of an upcoming product or idea to use for marketing purposes, then embed that video content into future ebooks using Slideshare or Uberflip

  • Use footage from an event to create a highlights reel and embed it into your recap blogs and social media posts

  • Interview customers and create a series of testimonials on your website that you then turn into a digital package to send to prospects

  • Create calls-to-action at the end of each of your videos that point people to a lead form or other piece of content using Vidyard

As you start thinking of your video strategy as a piece of your overall marketing strategy – not a siloed department – you’ll begin to see how content collaboration and recycling can unlock huge opportunities for your business (and save on resources at the same time).

8. Micro-video Content is Powerful.

annhandley.jpg

There are tiny moments in your daily life as a person and a business that people would love to see. These are often the most interesting and compelling moments that you can capture.

And with attention spans rapidly decreasing, now is the perfect time to start developing a short-form content strategy that meshes with your bigger content strategy.

At Convince & Convert, for example, Jay has started a new 3-minute video series where he speaks his mind on all things business and marketing. The great thing about Jay Today is that Jay is able to record each video quickly on his iPhone, and no one expects anything more from the production value because it’s more about the ideas. For other businesses, short videos can be used to explain the intricacies of a product or service or solve a customer service problem, as I mentioned above.

If you can parse out all of the individual moments that might need explaining or exploring and make a short video about each, you’ll be able to create a strategy that is hyper-targeted and relevant to each member of your audience. And they’ll love you for addressing their questions or problems quickly and succinctly, without having to sift through pages and pages of content.

Overall, this event was fantastic. The value of the insights and caliber of speakers were incredible, as you can see. But one of my favorite pieces of advice came from Tim Washer who said something that hits close to home for B2B marketers:

timwasher2.jpg

It’s a great reminder that addresses the fears of many marketers who feel that complete transparency will cause problems, so video marketing is dangerous. Remember, you don’t have to completely open up the flood gates to all of the things you do within your company. Try capturing some of the things that you know are solid and don’t worry about digging too deep at first. Transparency is ideal, but translucency can still be valuable in helping you build trust among your audience.

6 Ways to Make a Great First Impression in Branding

666.jpg

First impressions mean everything in the professional world. You may only have one opportunity to show a potential customer what your brand is about.

Today, businesses operate in an incredibly competitive era. Therefore, your brand needs all the goodwill that it can get. An impression is created in the customers’ minds about any brand they come in seconds. This impression is critical in maintaining a long-term relationship with across customers (eventually, customers become fans of your brand).

Every customer likes the idea that their favorite brands are unique and desirable. Many businesses spend lots of money on marketing and fail to focus on building a likable and distinct brand. Proper branding will help you get a better ROI from your advertising and marketing campaigns. If you want your business to be seen as a unique brand, you cannot afford to leave first impressions to chance.

How can you position your brand effectively to achieve this?

In this article, we will consider 5 necessary steps that you can take to ensure that your brand makes a killer impression.

Online Presence

online presence.jpg

Digitalization is prevalent in aspects of our lives, and you need to pay attention to your online branding. Customers may decide to check out your brand on any of their favorite platforms. This is why you need to ensure that all your digital assets are functional and positively represent your brand.

Your website is probably the first place that customers check; therefore, it needs to be attractive and easy to navigate (bonus tip, it also needs to load fast). Social media is also crucial because it is where your brand's "personality" is consistently dished out.

The goal is to ensure that you adequately represent your brand and give (potential) customers a great perception of your business.

Design

Have you ever thought of the relationship between great designs and the human mind? Well, it’s a tale of real love. Customers love quality designs that make their interactions with products (and services) easier. They also love beautiful ‘state of the art’ designs that benefit their lifestyle.

A great example of the importance of design is business is Apple Inc. Over the years, the tech giants have leveraged great designs to make customers FEEL good. You need to spend ample time creating amazing designs in terms of products and users' experiences.

Quality

No matter how good your branding may be, it is a waste when customers cannot relate to the “great” things that you are projecting through branding. Quality is probably the most critical factor when it comes to creating and maintaining a great impression. The quality of your product or service will go a long way in determining how customers feel about your brand.

The long term success of your brand largely depends on the quality of your product. However, you also need to focus on creating quality experiences for customers.

Social Proof

download.jpeg

Imagine you were looking for a place to try for lunch, and you walked down a street with 5 restaurants (each with killer branding and amazing ads). However, while 3 of them were bustling with customers, the other 2 were almost empty. It goes without saying that you will choose one of the 3 with many customers. This is because you assume that these restaurants with customers are doing well.

These days, there is a decline in the level of trust for traditional marketing. I mean, is there any brand that would say uncool things about their products or services? I guess not. However, with social proof, you can quickly gain the trust of prospective customers. Social proof is the concept that people tend to follow the actions of the masses.

Brands leverage social proof to improve brand awareness. In the example above, it is safe to assume that the empty restaurants aren't as good as those filled with customers. This is the same way that positive feedback from customers can improve awareness for a brand. Therefore, you need to make use of it strategically to enhance brand awareness.

Functionality

The disruption of normalcy over the past months has caused businesses to make critical decisions. There are several examples where simple (or sometimes, not so simple) functional changes have improved a brand’s impression. Brands can improve perceptions by paying attention to their customers' needs and leveraging innovation to make effective changes to that effect.

A classic example of this can be seen with Whatsapp stories. The application took a cue from Snapchat and Instagram to provide a feed for close contacts. This simple upgrade has endeared the app to many customers and improved the brand’s impression.

Copywriting (Working With Quality Creative Assets)

An emotional connection is critical when it comes to forming a stellar first impression. There are several ways to provide an emotional connection through professionally written copy. However, it is not only about what you write but also about how you visually present it. While videos and images are essential, the appearance of texts is also crucial.

With JUSTYPE ANIMATED TITLE PRESETS, you can always create copies that will endear audiences to your brand. Justype is a professionally animated titles pack that can be used to create engaging copies. With this timesaving tool, you can bring all your ideas to life and keep your viewers engaged.

Justype Animated Titles Presets is a pre-animated video template that includes a bundle of quick and easy to use animated title slides. It’s the best text animated preset series by Vdeesign. It is a great way to make a unique and lasting impression on customers.

You can check out this template (and many more amazing tools) here;

Rounding Up….

The importance of first impressions has been drummed into us since we were kids. However, there is a legitimate reason for this because humans are naturally inclined to judge a person or thing within the first few seconds of seeing it.

This is why you need to ensure that whenever a customer interacts with your brand (whether online or offline), it leaves a lasting positive impression.

7 Top Tips to Create a Killer Video Content Strategy

Video is a powerful content medium for storytelling. It can have a big impact on the success of your promotional campaigns and content marketing efforts.

It also serves as an effective way to connect with people and build more satisfying and deeper relationships between you and your target audience.

To prove the fact that video plays an important part of your content marketing strategy, here are a few key statistics:

  • In 2019, video content was to account for 80% of all consumer internet traffic.

  • Social media videos generate 1200% more shares compared with images and text combined.

  • 87% of online marketers use video content.

  • The volume of mobile video consumption increases by 100% every year.

In other words, now’s the time for your business to create a winning video content strategy.

What’s in your videos is up to you.

But I want to help you find viewers and promote your videos better. These are valuable business assets, so you need to make sure the right people watch them.

So without further ado, here are five actionable tips to get more eyes on your videos:

1. Have a simple video SEO strategy

SEO isn’t only relevant for your blog posts and website. In fact, YouTube (owned by Google) has become the second largest search engine online.

People not only use this network to find specific videos, but they also use it to search for broad information – just as they would on Google.com.

There are also practical steps you can take to help make your videos easier to find on YouTube. Here are a few keys to video SEO.

  • Titles are the best way to catch people’s attention. Keep it informative and short. The first 60 characters or less will show up onYouTube videos. And make sure you plan your keywords, just like for any blog post. You can use the SE Ranking keyword suggestion tool or the YouTube keyword tool to find relevant keywords.

  • Add keywords to your video description and include a link to your website. Keep it to 70 characters on YouTube and help users to understand what your video is about.

Here a good example from R-Tools Technology:

image10.png
  • Use tags properly with different keyword variations. Think about all the different things that people who watch your video could be looking for, and make sure to include these.

  • Link-building is important here too. The number of links that lead to your video is important for keywords rankings in search.

  • Thumbnails are the first thing that makes users watch your video. Create engaging, colorful, high-quality, branded and eye-catching thumbnails.

  • Many videos are watched on mobile devices, so you should think about optimizing your videos for mobile viewing.

  • To help your videos rank, a video sitemap is a good way to provide all details about your video content to search engines.

image14.png

2. Make it clear what the video is about

If you want to get more views for your videos, obviously, you should provide enough information for people to decide whether they want to watch it or not.

John Bottom says on his blog that people skim the titles at first before watching the video, which makes sense.

But aside from the title and description, video isn’t an easy format to skim.

Don’t expect that people will choose to view your 5 or 10-minute video instead of scanning in seconds a piece of text or image.

How to fix this problem?

A. Write an accurate and informative synopsis. Highlight 3-4 benefits that viewers will get after watching the video. And if it’s a narrative, you can plot the main points.

B. Try to transcribe your videos. This way you give viewers the content in a text format they can skim read first, then watch if they prefer. Moreover, you will help search engines crawl your video content. In this case, I love how Rand Fishkin does it:

3. Use social proof

Using social proof is a good way not only to increase conversions, but also to build trust and credibility between yourself and your audience.

50% of customers find customer testimonial videos useful.

There are a lot of effective ways to do it. For example, you can show likes, votes, views, comments and such to showcase how other people find your video content informative and valuable.

If you offer services or products, provide video testimonials or case studies from your customers, experts, celebrities or friends. Here is how Van Damme did it for Volvo:

4. Optimize video for conversions

Once you encourage people to watch your video, it’s time to get the most out of it and focus on conversions. All it takes is to optimize it correctly with a focus on conversions.

How can we do that?

A. Include a clear call to action. Savvy online marketers know how important it is to have a clear call to action. Everything depends on your objective, whether you want leads, sales or just a dialogue.

You can include a direct message from the video’s speakers, add a link at the end of the video leading to your landing page, add share buttons, and plenty more.

Make sure that it’s easy to engage with your video.

As an example, you can see how Berenji & Associates demonstrate a direct prompt to start a free consultation and tell people what to do next:

image11.png

B. Define the best publishing time. Analyze and determine the best time to share the video and get the most views in the first 48 hours. The more views you get, the more YouTube will recognize the significance of your video content to other viewers.

C. Offer incentives. Give people immediate incentives to watch and engage with your videos. You could give discounts to your video viewers, a free white paper, a giveaway, or links to a free course.

image9.png

D. Get creative with your content. You can make your videos interactive and entertaining and show how your video can help users. Be creative and try different things to figure out what works best in terms of getting conversions.

As an example, Slack made this entertaining video where animals are the stars:

E. Give more options. Viewers’ opinions differ. Some people prefer emails and contact forms, others prefer to receive texts or make phone calls. Give 2-3 options for your customers to choose from.

Take a look at this example from Fernandez & Karney:

F. Create simple and short videos. There’s a lot of advice to suggest that short and simple videos perform better than the long ones.

But in reality, the best videos are the ones that work for you. So find the length that works best for you and stick to it.

image1.gif

G. Say thank you at the end of the video. To increase conversions, show your sincere emotions about your customer memories. It’s a good way to get new customers and increase the retention rate in the long run.

image6.png

5. Choose your distribution outlets

To engage even further, you need to find the right distribution channels and deliver your content to the perfect audience.

And in short, this means sending your video to as many places as possible.

Here are smart ideas you can consider for your video content strategy:

  • Use your video on your website. Even if you don’t have much traffic, this can encourage new visitors to watch your videos, and maybe improve your site’s performance.

  • Upload your video to YouTube and Vimeo. The obvious places to start.

  • Share your video directly on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Google+ and Pinterest.

  • Introduce your video presentations on SlideShare.

  • Embed your video directly in your emails.

Once you share videos through these well-known channels, keep going and find new ways to promote them.

There are probably plenty of options in your niche that may work for your video strategy.

6. Maximize the reach and impact of your videos

So, your video content campaign is ready, and you want to get the maximum impact out of it.

Here are some helpful things to consider in your video marketing strategy:

  • Engage with your viewers. Try to ask viewers’ opinions and respond to all comments that are posted under the video. If you run live videos, you’ll get instant notifications when someone leaves comments under your video Your job is to let them know that their opinions are heard.

  • Pay to promote your video. Facebook and YouTube are great advertising tools to reach a large, targeted audience. You don’t need to have a huge budget to grow subscribers and exposure. Just make a compelling introduction, know your target audience and customize your parameters.

  • Make it part of your overall marketing campaign. Video is really just another format to present the same information you have in blog posts, web pages, podcasts, white papers, and all your other content efforts.

So just as you create informative content for these formats, do the same with videos!

7. Analyze your video performance

No online marketing campaign can be successful without analytics.

If you create a lot of videos, you should measure your investments in video marketing campaigns and make deliberate decisions to improve them.

You can use YouTube Analytics and Google Analytics to keep track of video performance and learn more about views, traffic sources, total watch time, and find your most popular videos. To measure your YouTube rankings, you can also go with the SE Ranking position tracking tool.

Moreover, you can measure your overall brand awareness based on the total number of views, the number of shares, and the number of mentions.

The best way to build a successful strategy is always to have clear methods of measurement.

The Bottom Line

It takes time and effort to create high-performing videos. But if you have the right video content plan and show a little creativity, you can capitalize on its potential to tell inspirational videos and encourage people to watch and take actions.

A Guide to After Effects Menus: Edit

After Effects is the foundation of any motion design career, but how well do you really know it?

How often do you use the top menu tabs in After Effects? Chances are, you probably have a handful of tools you use, but what about those random features you haven’t tried yet? We're taking a look at the hidden gems in the top menus, and we're just getting started.

In this tutorial, we’ll take a closer look at some of the best features inside the Edit tab in After Effects. At first glance, the Edit tab looks pretty bland. But there is so much more to this menu item than just undo and redo.

A-Guide-To-Menus_AE-20200730-Edit_Article.png

Ya'll are seriously talking about the Edit Menu?

You better believe it! Utilizing the Edit tab enables you to instantly create expressions, make your renders faster, and keep your workflow more personal. Here are the 3 things you should use in the After Effects Edit menu:

  • Property links

  • Purge all memory

  • Keyboard shortcuts

Let’s dive in.

Copy with Property Links

after-effects-menu-edit-1.jpg

Expressions can be incredibly helpful. But let’s be honest—we don’t always have the time to tinker with the pick whip, troubleshoot rigs, or copy and paste code into every asset in our comp. Sometimes, we just want a quick expression ready to go.

In this section, I’ll show you how to skip the process of working with expressions, simply by using property links.

For those that aren’t familiar, property links are the specific characteristics of an asset that can be controlled: everything from scale, to position, to rotation. You can copy these specific properties and use them to control other assets in your scene.

Let’s say you have one main square in your comp, and you want it to control the rotation of all other squares. You can use property links to attach the rotation of all squares to the main squares...without diving into expressions.

Simply select the rotation property of your main square and go to Edit > Copy with Property Links.

Now, select the rotation values on the other squares in your scene.

after-effects-menu-edit-2.png

Hit Command+ V (Mac OS) Or Control+ V (Windows)

When you rotate your main square, the others will follow.

The benefit of using property links is that you can quickly set up rigs that would otherwise take time to write with custom expressions. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of assets in a scene that need to be rigged.

Purge All Memory And Disk Cache

after-effects-menu-edit-3.jpg

If you’re looking to speed up the processing and render time for your projects, learning how to purge memory and disk cache is a must.

For anyone who’s not familiar, the disk cache is where the data from your After Effects file is stored. When you hit play in your timeline, After Effects is relying on memory from the disk cache to help the preview run smoother. But if the disk cache gets too full, it prevents After Effects from running smoothly. Clearing this out ensures that your computer has enough room to run at optimal speed.

In order to do this, simply head up to Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache. The best time to do this is usually when you finish a big project, and want to make space for your next animation.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Every motion designer knows that keyboard shortcuts are the lifeblood of a speedy workflow. Editing keyboard shortcuts helps you customize your process, and creates a more intuitive experience that fits your personal style. If you want to change your keyboard shortcuts in After Effects, this is how you do it!

To get started, go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts to unlock a whole panel of tools for finding and creating custom hot keys.

To create your own shortcut, select a key that isn’t being used, and search through the command menu on the bottom left. Then click Save As at the top to lock in your custom setup.

after-effects-menu-edit-4.png

Everyone has their own set of favorite tools, effects, and tricks. By customizing your keyboard shortcuts, you can create an ideal workflow that’s best for your projects and preferences.

Look at you! On your way to becoming an After Effects Master!

Although you might not dig into the Edit tab very often, using these features is a great way to get the most out of After Effects. You can save yourself a lot of time and effort with copying property links, purging your disk cache, and customizing keyboard shortcuts.

After Effects Kickstart

If you're looking to get the most out of After Effects, maybe it's time to take a more proactive step in your professional development. That's why we put together After Effects Kickstart, a course designed to give you a strong foundation in this core program.

After Effects Kickstart is the ultimate After Effects intro course for motion designers. In this course, you'll learn the most commonly used tools and best practices for using them while mastering the After Effects interface.

8 Tips for an Effective Video Marketing Strategy

Experts have dubbed video one of the most important developments in the marketing world, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Video is no longer an up-and-coming content marketing trend—it’s an integral part of many companies’ marketing plans.

In other words, video waltzed through the content marketing door, took its shoes off, and got comfortable.

And it’s effective, too – including videos on your landing pages can increase conversions by 80%. In addition, 92% of mobile video consumers share videos with other people. Video is a powerful tool for reaching and engaging your target audience.

In this post, we’ll take a look at eight things your video marketing strategy should include to take your efforts to the next level.

1. Create a posting schedule

Viewers expect regular content updates, so it’s important to think of your videos in terms of campaigns instead of posting videos at random. Think of stories that you can tell and break them into multiple parts, posting a new update each week.

After you’ve established the content of your videos, create a publishing schedule. Establishing and maintaining a consistent posting schedule will encourage your audience to come back for more videos. You can also space your videos out over time and use them to lead viewers up to a big product launch or exciting announcement.

Continue to implement new campaigns according to your posting schedule to keep your audience engaged in your content. This will also help to establish your business as a leader in your industry if you post consistent, helpful video content.

2. Include tutorials and demos

Want to explain how your products work? With video marketing, you can create content that demonstrates how to use them.

If someone has a question about your products or services, they can view your videos before purchasing. For example, if I want to buy a new backpack for hiking, I can go online and check out reviews and video demos from popular brands. Then, I can better compare the features and choose the best backpack for me.

Tutorials and demos can ease customers’ concerns and help them feel confident in their decision to purchase a particular product or service. This will help to convert more of your site visitors into satisfied customers.

3. Tell stories

If you’re like me, you love good stories—stories that reel you in and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Incorporating stories into your video content is a great way to improve viewer engagement. Rather than simply introducing your company, your mission, and your products, look for ways to tell stories with your videos. How does your company impact your clients? Are you making a difference in the community? Develop your story, and use videos to share it with your audience.

4. Show your personality

Your videos are a great chance to showcase your company culture. People don’t want to watch boring videos. They are more likely to watch videos that are engaging and full of personality.

Think about what sets your business apart, and highlight that in your videos. Don’t waste time creating videos that don’t do your company justice.

5. Incorporate customer-generated content

People love seeing themselves in videos, so why not make your customers the stars of the show? You can encourage them to create videos while using your products and services, then post those videos to your social media profiles and website.

When people see themselves in the videos, they will likely share them with friends and family. And every time someone shares one of your videos, your brand will gain exposure in the newsfeeds of a wide audience of people.

6. Don’t forget calls to action

Don’t forget to include calls to action in your videos. If you want someone to visit your website or follow you on social media, let them know.

If someone is speaking in the video, they can easily instruct viewers to take a desired action. You can also include text in your videos that links to your website and encourages viewers to check it out for more information.

Customers might enjoy your video, but if they have no idea what to do after they watch it, you may be pouring time and money down the drain. Adding a call to action is simple, and can spark conversions that may never have otherwise happened.

youtube.jpg

7. Optimize videos with SEO content

Did you know that Google indexes YouTube videos? So when someone searches for your brand and a particular phrase, you have the opportunity to show up multiple times in the same search.

To optimize your videos, you can include keywords in your video descriptions. And you can add shortened links with calls to action that encourage people to visit your website or a landing page with a special offer.

You can also take advantage of YouTube’s tagging feature, which determines the relevance of your videos and groups similar videos together. This will help your video appear as a “related video” when viewers watch similar content.

8. Evaluate success

In order to create successful video marketing campaigns, you have to understand and evaluate the effectiveness of your video marketing strategies.

Many video hosting sites include analytics and can give you an idea of how your videos are performing. You can use these analytics to analyze metrics such as the number of times of video is played and the percentage of visitors who clicked the play button.

Additionally, you can integrate your videos on your site and monitor the results with Google Analytics. This will enable you to get the same level of insight with your videos as all of the other content on your site.

Video has gained a tremendous amount of momentum in the world of marketing, and it’s not expected to lose traction in the near future.

Top 7 Animation and Motion Design Trends 2020

Animation and motion graphics have become powerful tools for creative advertising and marketing. They continually fuel various types of business promotion and shape a whole new way to present products and services in modern digital space.

From the slightly visible in-app animation to full promotional videos, motion graphics penetrates marketing across all the industries and types of businesses. Even organizations that have been expected to look more traditional opt for being injected by a dose of creativity manifested in inspirational animated videos and other kinds of fun motion design.

The animation is sensitive to global design and technology trends, and it is fast-evolving this year too. In this article, we are going to outline the top seven most fantastic animation and motion graphics trends that deploy their power and impact in design for business this year.

Restricted Color Palette

The poetry lives in laconism, and you may say a lot with a few simple words. We can say the same about colors. Today’s trend is telling a visual story using only a few primary colors instead of a rich palette with many semi-tones. It has also become one of the hottest digital illustration trends.

Animation with the restricted color specter looks straightforward and sophisticated at the same time. It is a kind of challenge for an artist to use only several colors to reveal the mood and character of the illustration. Despite the limited palette, the masterfully made animation may look very appealing and outstanding. Such animations often shine out with a slight feeling of retro and nostalgia.

Thin Lines

Lines perform many functions in the video. They give a direction, define shapes, and even dictate a mood. However, this year, thin lines play a particularly interesting role. Making them super-thin yet extra-distinctive, artists try to create animations that look like real hand-drawn pictures. It adds a unique style to the videos.

The effect of linear art in animated videos has become one of the most adorable trends in 2020. Many businesses have already tried to reveal the power of this trend in their promotional and explainer videos. An excellent example is an animated video created by Explain Ninja.

Mixing 2D and 3D

2D and 3D are still often combined in videos this year. Many motion designers mix them, saying that they add a particular sense of style to a video and make it even more enjoyable for customers. The most widely spread example of this trend is integrating 2D and 3D animation as well as inserting 2D overlayers with movement.

You can consider this technique not only in big-budget advertisement videos but also in small-scaled digital ads.

Kinetic Typography

Commonly, artists are afraid of dare experimenting with fonts and typefaces due to the high likelihood of reduced readability. Although, in 2020, they take up new challenges in typography, break traditional rules, and bring surprisingly great results.

It seems that the kinetic typography literally claims for going beyond the limits of traditional typography and encourages stretching, twisting, and distorting letters. And guess what! People like it. ECommerce websites and mobile apps with the kinetic typography in animated videos draw more attention to a brand, make it memorable, and demonstrate high performance.

Morphing

Animation by Aslan Almukhambetov

Morphing gains its momentum in 2020 too. It is an effect in motion pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image or shape into another through a seamless transition. The concept of morphing characters, logos, images, and other objects in a video is becoming even more widely spread today.

It works as a visual magnet that sticks attention and makes us watch the effect until it ends. This technique is particularly useful in website animation since it helps to keep the web visitor’s eyes on the page and increases the time spent on a website. Consequently, it is good for search engine optimization, because Google boosts those sites, which are so engaging that they need more user’s time to interact with than on average.

Animated Logos

In the struggle for the brilliant and unforgettable online presence, businesses try to incorporate animation in different branding materials. Animated logos have already become one of the most significant trends in brand identity design.

Motion graphics breathe life into static typography and icons, making a brand more attractive and dynamic-looking for customers. Animated logos, due to their unexpected movements and twists, are often associated with the brand’s tendency to innovate and deliver something unique to its customers.

Grain

The grain is a tool, which artists use to add a more authentic look to the images. It creates an effect of texture in the vector imagery and breathes life into illustrations. The visuals look a bit rough, more natural, and closer to the real-world surfaces and textures.

The animated videos with the grain effect stand out from others and help brands deliver eye-catching visuals to customers. Such animation shows that a company stands for home-made quality and creativity.

To Wrap It Up

2020 is the year of significant beginnings and breakthroughs in various fields of life and global industries. Animation and motion graphics have also been affected by these positive changes in the human perception of the surrounding world and beauty in it.

Here we have considered the top seven most prominent trends in animation and motion design. Hopefully, they will also inspire you to deploy design innovation in videos and animation created to skyrocket the success and popularity of your company.

Motion Graphics vs. Animation: What’s the difference?

If you want to get into producing animated videos for your business, you’ve probably asked yourself: What is the difference between animation and motion graphics?

Motion graphics are a type of animation. While motion graphics describes moving or animated graphic design, animation is an umbrella term for the whole field of moving imagery, including everything from cartoons to claymation. Motion graphics focus on giving movement to graphic design elements, but tend to have less of a concrete storytelling aspect than other types of animation.

The terms are often used interchangeably and the distinction is not always completely black and white.

In this article, we’ll define motion graphics and explain how it differs from other styles of animation. We’ll also explain when to use which term when talking about motion graphics and animation.

What are motion graphics?

Motion graphics takes graphic design that would be otherwise static and gives it animation and movement, usually without following a specific narrative.

Want the bars in your graph to rise up for some extra visual flair? That’s motion graphics.

Want the logo on your website to spin around? That’s motion graphics.

Want to animate characters to bring a children’s fairy tale to life? That’s actually not motion graphics. It’s a completely different type of animation.

Whether or not there’s a “story” being told is a big determining factor in deciding if you’re dealing with motion graphics or animation. Motion graphics animation usually features shapes, objects or text that are being set in motion.

Why bother with motion graphics instead of a much cheaper, static infographic?

Motion graphics can illustrate complex ideas visually. Think of motion graphics like a visual aid. Some ideas (especially big, abstract ones) are hard to explain with words or still images. A few seconds of motion graphics can clear everything up perfectly. Just think about how password fields sometimes vibrate or turn red when you enter a wrong password, instantly signalling that you need to try again.

The visual style of motion graphics appeals to a wide range of viewers. Cartoons may come across as too childish for a formal business. But motion graphics can use that cute and fun style and apply it to more mature topics. No matter what industry you’re in, the motion graphics look can make your message more engaging and entertaining.

What is animation?

Animation is the broader umbrella term that motion graphics falls under. Animation has a history dating back more than 100 years. (Wanna dig into that history? Check out this great guide to animation).

Any technique that makes static objects or images move is animation—whether it’s hand-drawn cartoons, CGI, anime, claymation or motion graphics. These categories are not mutually exclusive. Most motion graphics are done with CGI, but you could theoretically do hand-drawn motion graphics as well.

What separates motion graphics from other types of animation (at least in terms of marketing videos) is content. Motion graphics are typically associated with setting abstract objects, text and other graphic design elements in motion. Bringing a graph, infographic or web design to life using movement is broadly speaking “animation,” but more specifically, it’s a type of animation that’s called motion graphics.

In contrast, animation as a specific art form focuses more on cinematic effects and storytelling techniques to craft a narrative.

Think of it like this: if your video sets graphics in motion to illustrate a point, it’s would be called motion graphics. If your video features a human character that goes on an emotional journey, it’s more likely to be called “animation.”

So when do you use the term animation compared to motion graphics?

This animation tells the story of what happens when texting while driving. Animation design by SB.D

Animation is used for stories. Anyone who’s seen a Pixar film knows that animation can be a powerful storytelling medium. Motion graphics can bring statistical data to life, but animation can bring characters to life with emotional narratives, creativity, and artistic expression.

Animation is more expensive. Motion graphics are usually easier to produce. It’s a less complex form of animation. But when you start looking at photorealistic CGI, hand-drawn or painted artwork, and stop-motion techniques, expect to invest more money.

Motion graphics vs. animation: When to use each technique

It’s no secret the internet loves videos. No matter whether you choose motion graphics or other styles of animation, videos in general yield better engagement, traffic and conversions.

Narrative title sequence for South by Southwest Conference & Festivals via Coat of Arms

Video is the #1 preferred type of content from brands with 93% of digital marketers saying that social media videos won them new customers. More than half of users engaged with a brand after watching one of their videos on social media.

However, you don’t want just any video, you want the one that best matches your brand and business goals. So, do you use motion graphics or animation?

When to use motion graphics

Motion graphics are best for outlining or emphasizing facts and illustrating a point you’re trying to make. Motion graphics are used when there’s no need for narrative or storytelling.

Motion graphic videos can break down your complex services or products and present them in a memorable way. Remember, motion graphics are at their core visual aids, so they excel at teaching hard-to-understand ideas through visuals.

When to use other animation techniques

If you want to highlight the emotional aspects of a story, provide a narrative or if you need to connect with your audience on an emotional level, you want to go with other kinds of animation.

Stories help establish a deeper connection between you and your target audience and other types of animation are better suited for creating these kinds of narratives.

Marketing in motion

When we’re talking about motion graphics and other types of animation, remember: there is a lot of overlap between these and sometimes it can be hard to tell them apart.

But no matter which type of animated video you use, you’re on your way to more engaging content for your audience.

And we’re here to help you get it right: learn more about video, from the basics of video production and video marketing and what types of video there are, to scaling your video production and creating video for social media.

Why & How to Leverage Video Ads in the Wake of COVID-19

favorite-ads-to-come-out-of-coronavirus-1160x679.png

Haven’t leveraged video ads in the past? Now might be the right time to do so. Here's why and how video ads can be more impactful now more than ever.

COVID-19 has created unique challenges for consumers and businesses alike.

Businesses are looking for inexpensive ways to tap into sales.

Consumers are seeking out content, now more than ever – for various reasons.

Video just might be the intersection where those worlds collide.

If you’re a brand or an agency, and you haven’t leveraged video in the past – now might be the right time to give it a whirl.

Let’s talk about why and how video can be more impactful now than ever.

People Are Seeking Connection, Which Is Driving Them to Video Content

The pandemic has left many folks in their home with limited contact with friends and family, or just people in general, aside from phone calls, messages, and video chats.

As a result, people seem to be turning toward social media and video content in various forms as a source of entertainment, education, and (potentially) as a source of human connection.

Bloomberg reported that toward the end of March, YouTube started streaming in Standard Definition (instead of HD) to help preserve bandwidth worldwide.

This decision was made after they were asked by regulators in the EU – along with other social and streaming sites – because of increased usage.

Think with Google offered a few examples of ways that video creators can connect with audiences.

Some quick searches on Google Trends (filtering for YouTube searches) can also help you look at trends and interests relevant to your business.

Here are just a few examples of YouTube search trends that have spiked since the onset of social distancing.

Searches Around Problems & Challenges That Have Been Presented as a Result of the Pandemic

youtube-searches-covid-challenges.png

Searches for Content on New Hobbies, How to Do Things One’s Self & Ways to Pass the Time

youtube-searches-covid-pass-the-time.png
youtube-searches-covid-learning.png

What Does This Mean for Advertisers?

Consumers are turning toward video content for various topics.

There’s a good chance that your audience is on social media, consuming video content.

Taking a look at Google Trends can give you a sense of whether your audience is turning to YouTube and, more specifically, what content topics they are looking for.

Inventory Is Less Competitive: CPVs & CPMs Are Low

Clients of mine that have continued to run YouTube ads throughout the pandemic have seen increasingly lower CPVs, which have led to lower CPLs.

While conversion rates will vary by industry and advertiser, the decrease in CPVs would indicate that other advertisers are pulling out of YouTube.

Sure, this is anecdotal but Emarketer’s recent survey would seem to validate these assumptions.

The results indicated digital video has experienced some of the highest advertiser fallout of all channels, while YouTube video views have continued to increase.

(For more insights into the Emarketer studies and other marketers’ takes on COVID-19 trends and results, check out Susan Wenograd’s article, What’s Happening to Paid Media Performance During COVID-19.)

covid-emarketer-study.png

It isn’t just YouTube, though.

Advertisers are pulling out of Facebook and Instagram, as well, which are also really strong channels for promoting video.

Advertisers that I’m working with have seen 30% and greater decreases in CPM across their Facebook campaigns, leading to more exposure for less cost and, more importantly, substantial drops in CPL.

What Does That Mean for You?

If you’ve considered testing video creative in the past but shied away for fear of cost, now could be the right time.

Ad inventory is arguably cheaper than it has been in quite some time.

You have opportunities to run tests and gather data at a lower budget than it would typically require.

Creative Dos & Don’ts

There are some unique dos and don’ts that should be considered under current circumstances.

For one, nearly everyone is feeling some major changes in some, if not all, aspects of their life.

Consumers are adjusting to a new normal and learning new ways to do things.

They are dealing with the side effects of a pandemic which could include income changes, lack of social interaction, and concern for their own health as well as their loved ones’.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to be really careful with your message.

Creative Dos

Do Stay on Brand

You should revisit creatives that were running before the pandemic if you haven’t already – because the same message may not be applicable.

That said, keeping consistent with your brand tone is still important in the long term.

Do Be Empathetic

But don’t go overboard.

Be genuine.

Watch Your Tone

Things you may have said in ads before may not be the right fit, right now.

I saw an ad that mentioned a “killer event strategy.”

Seriously?

Yikes.

Even if it worked before, doublecheck your tone.

Solve a Problem

This is just good practice whether in the midst of a pandemic or not.

Let your ad show how you can help.

Creative Don’ts

Don’t Try Too Hard to Pull on the Heart Strings

Many people are using social as a way to entertain themselves and take a break from the news.

Plus, it could come off as disingenuous.

This satirical commercial shared by AdAge is a tongue-in-cheek reminder that consumers see through this type of tactic.

Don’t Use the Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt (FUD) as a Motivator

There’s enough of that going around without the help of advertisers.

Plus, recent studies have shown that viewers are seeking uplifting content.

Don’t Be Too Salesy or Capitalistic

There can be heightened sensitivity to tactics such as this, especially in times like these.

Don’t Use COVID-19 as a Promotion Strategy

Just don’t.

I saw an underwear retailer using a promotion where each pair purchased would also contribute one pair to be donated to healthcare workers on the front lines.

It was a very thinly veiled attempt to use the pandemic to push their product.

I don’t know about you but underwear isn’t something I’ve heard of doctors and nurses requesting donations of, so it also came off as disjointed and, honestly, just strange.

Worrying About Content Production? Don’t Let That Stop You

Amateur-grade content production isn’t only acceptable – it’s relatable.

I would say this almost anytime, anyway, but it is especially true right now.

There’s something about a homemade video that can come off as authentic no matter when it is produced… but right now, with so many people telecommuting, including the hosts of national talk shows, rough video content is the norm.

Still not comfortable?

YouTube recently launched a new video builder, which might be more your speed.

6 Best Practices for Making User-Friendly Motion Graphics Templates

cover.jpg

Motion Graphics Templates combine amazing motion design, the creative power of After Effects, and efficient user experience in one package, right inside of Premiere Pro. At their heart, Motion Graphics Templates (MoGRTS) are a straightforward way for any user to create beautiful motion graphics for their projects. MoGRT designers can ensure a good user experience by standardizing controls, using hierarchies, and adding guardrails to the Essential Graphics Panel outlined in the following best practices. Open After Effects and select the Essential Graphics workspace to get started.

1. Guardrails are great

Guardrails guarantee that design aesthetics are preserved, MoGRT performance is optimal, and users are empowered to make strong design choices. In the Essential Graphics Panel (EGP), where all MoGRT customizations are made, each control should be vital to the MoGRT; include only what is necessary to the template’s purpose and visual style. It may seem as though it liberates the user if every control available is added into the EGP, yet these intense calculations will impede a MoGRT’s refresh rate, increase render times, hinder the user’s decision-making ability, and cause frustration. As the MoGRT designer, make the best design choices for the user! For example, instead of including every Fractal Noise control in the EGP, create multiple background comps, then render and replace to make these background options available. This will improve MoGRT performance and ensure well-designed graphics.

Elements should be displayed where they’re meant to be located – text within title safety; lower thirds in the lower half of the screen; etc. Be sure to set both the text justification and the anchor point accordingly. It would be cumbersome for the user to have to reposition an element because they changed its size or alignment.

Text with correct anchor points do not need to be repositioned when the text size is changed.

Text with correct anchor points do not need to be repositioned when the text size is changed.

Use global controls to consolidate like controls. For example, if the MoGRT is designed with three complementary colors, consider using only three-color controls in the EGP. This retains the design aesthetic and minimizes redundancies.

Left: Extensive EGP with 7 color controls across 3 groups | Right: Consolidated EGP with 3 color controls.

Left: Extensive EGP with 7 color controls across 3 groups | Right: Consolidated EGP with 3 color controls.

2. Use the right controls

Choosing the right controls makes for an easy-to-navigate EGP. In previous versions of MoGRTS, Slider Controls were the primary control type. A wider array of controls is now supported in Premiere Pro and After Effects 2020. Here’s what each is best for:

  1. Angle — Any radial item, such as rotation.

  2. Checkbox — On/off states.

  3. Color — Linking several colors to a singular control, such as global text colors.

  4. Drop Down Menu — Choices that require descriptions, such as animation direction and style.

  5. Slider — For minimum and maximum values, such as opacity.

    • Be sure to Edit Range to set constraints.

  6. Point — For unlinked x/y values.

  7. Source Text — For text inputs

    • Use generic text with long text strings to account for longer names with appropriate paragraph alignment so text retypes correctly.

    • It’s ideal to add a line spacing control since Premiere Pro 14  allows for multiple lines of text on all text inputs.

    • Consider enabling Font Properties (font substitution, font size adjustment, and faux styles) if this aligns with the needs of the MoGRT. Be aware that text with the font size adjustment enabled can benefit from using anchor point expressions.

Expressions Control types as seen from the user perspective in Premiere Pro.

Expressions Control types as seen from the user perspective in Premiere Pro.

Use a layer’s native transform properties instead of Expressions Controls when possible to limit CPU calculations. Unnecessary expressions will negatively impact a MoGRT’s playback and render times. Be aware that not all transform properties are available for use in the EGP, and they do not have constrained values.

3. Be meaningful in control names

Controls and parameters in the Essential Graphics Panel should be given clear, instructive names so that no comments or extra instructions outside of the template itself are needed. Name controls descriptively according to which element(s) they control, control type, or screen position, (eg. “Main Title” or “Left Rectangle Size”). Avoid naming controls with variable elements (eg. “Yellow Outline”), since once the control is changed, the control name is no longer meaningful.

Example of control names that will lose meaning once the colors are changed.

Example of control names that will lose meaning once the colors are changed.

Technical terms like “scale,” “fill,” “stroke,” or “seed” can be confusing for a novice. Use more familiar terms like “size,” “color,” “outline,” and “randomize” to connect with all users.

Comments can be a great way to communicate to users how the control works. However, if comments are used excessively to explain controls, investigate if the control itself is necessary or if it’s the right control type. A descriptive name is often enough for a single control. Comments should be used sparingly.

4. Create families with groups

Groups and sub-groups give structure and set up user expectations within the EGP. Grouping according to a relationship instead of category allows a user to change a single element on the screen instead of sifting through several groups. The text is often the most important part of the MoGRT, so the EGP can be comfortably split into two main groups: Text Controls and Background Controls (everything behind the text). Each group may contain sub-groups for each text input, along with finer controls. Other groups may be important to use depending on the MoGRT’s design.

Groups with granular sub-groups.

Groups with granular sub-groups.

Close any groups and sub-groups before export so the user is not overwhelmed by options when first editing the MoGRT.

5. Structure layers according to the importance

Hierarchy highlights the most important control to use first, allowing a user to quickly flip through design options before fine-tuning. Place the most significant visual style at the top of the layer stack. As a user works downwards through the EGP, they should be refining the design choices previously made. An important control at the bottom of the EGP can invalidate previous design choices and confuse users.

Set standards for layering consistency. For example, once setting text position controls below a text input, be sure to do this for every text position control for that MoGRT.

6. Test the MoGRT

Testing a MoGRT in Premiere Pro will provide a first-hand preview of the user experience and uncover any performance issues as well as broken or redundant controls. Play a MoGRT multiple times through to allow it to cache and evaluate its playback performance. If playback is stuttering and slow, consider removing heavier effects and intense expressions to optimize. When testing in Premiere Pro, be sure to adjust every control to push the MoGRT to its breaking point, retype all text with longer text strings, and resize text to see if the template’s integrity is upheld. Head back to After Effects to revise any errors.

Now go out and make user-friendly MoGRTS!

By following these best practices, MoGRTS designers can ensure excellent user experience and enable users to quickly and effortlessly customize a MoGRT.

5 Ways to Maximize Customer Experience for Your App

Customer-Experience-Strategy.jpg

Today, businesses are doing everything to reach customers and enhance their experience. With the use of digital platforms, companies have been able to adapt to changing dynamic times. Applications provide a means of regular interaction between brands and their legion of loyal followers.

How exactly is this legion formed? Good question!

As humans, we tend to make purchasing decisions based on emotions. Most of our decisions are based on motivation from our emotions. As an app developer, you are selling an experience to potential customers, and you need to pay attention to some factors that can affect the way customers perceive your app (and ultimately, your brand) is perceived.

The digital space is insanely competitive; therefore, you need to consistently find ways to get customers to keep interacting with your business. It is not enough to get new customers; retention is the name of the game.

How do you ensure retention?

With the consistent growth of the market for mobile apps, you need to ensure that you seize it. To do this, you need to create a set of unique experiences for users of your app. Imagine that your app was a person, and you needed to regularly show different sides of this "person" to your users. This is why you need to create the ultimate customer experience for your users.

Understanding customer experience

The customer experience (often called CX) is the impression that your brand leaves on the customer through various stages of the customers’ lifecycle. It refers to the people, processes, products, and the customer delivery process of your business. Customer experience is the basis for loyalty and customer satisfaction; it plays a huge rule in helping companies to achieve their goals.

Whether you define it or not, your business always delivers customer experience. Since this is the case, you need to set it as you cannot afford to leave it to chance. Every interaction that a customer has with your business will either bring them closer to purchasing or take them further away from it.

You need to understand the difference between user experience and customer experience. User experience refers to the various steps that are involved when users interact with your business. On the other hand, customer experience covers all aspects of user experience.

Without further ado, let’s look at five ways to ensure that users of your app keep coming back;

1. Customer-Centric (And Take Action)

customer cetric.png

Customer centricity is crucial in ensuring fantastic customer experience. However, to remain relevant and compete in the world of mobile apps, you need to take action based on your discoveries. There is a need to incorporate customer preferences into your decisions ruthlessly. Therefore, you cannot afford to be merely theoretical about your stance as a customer-centric business.

There are several ways to get feedback from customers, such as; surveys, reviews, ratings, purchasing behavior, etc. Feedback helps you to understand better what your customers need and how you can serve them better. Since the goal of every business is to satisfy customer needs, you should listen to them and act accordingly.

2. Personalize Experience

personalize-elearning-experience-culture-empathy.jpg

Today, customers often demand personalized experiences from their favorite brands. Customers are more likely to fall in love with brands that treat them with a high level of personalization. Apart from creating a fantastic customer experience, personalized experience also increased the amount of time that users spend on your app.

Customers are more likely to stay and use your app when they are proactively engaged. You need to take engagement from a general level to a personal level. The context in which your message is delivered is essential. This means that you need to find the right time and place to reach out to the customer.

You also need to avoid sending annoying, impersonal, and irrelevant messages because this will harm the customer experience.

3. Be Proactive

You need to think ahead and identify problems before they arise. This is possible when you understand patterns and analyze them to find out issues before they become problems. By being proactive, you get to stay ahead of your customers and have better-personalized interactions with them.

Customers often expect companies to ask for feedback across all channels. When you are proactive, your customers are more likely to willingly provide feedback and show you areas where you may be missing it. When it comes to customer experience, you need to be willing to ask in clear terms and take proactive steps to meet your customers' needs.

When you are proactive, you get to keep your customers happy and increase your retention rates.

4. Mobile App Inbox

5d3f03ef4401a5ba11efb3dc_mobile-mail-app-002.jpg

Looking for an all-new destination with which you can effectively communicate with customers? Think of the mobile app inbox as your unique way to reach out to customers. When used correctly, using a select inbox can create a unique experience for your customers. With in-app mailboxes, you can send time-constrained offers to specific users based on their activities.

This channel of communication is essential; however, there is a need to get permission from users. Once you include it in your terms and conditions, then you are good to go.

5. Use Professional Videos

A significant part of customer experience is digital, and videos provide a great way to reach out to customers. When it comes to videos, quality is crucial because it will endear potential users to your app. Whether you are advertising your application or some additional features, quality videos can improve customer experience and help you stand out.

How can you consistently create great promo videos?

There are several strategies that you can deploy to market your app. However, one thing you cannot leave out of your marketing strategy is video. With videos, you can ensure that your app gets all of the attention that it deserves.

The 3D mobile app promo is a short video tool that companies use to connect with users and pitch the benefits all in 30-60 seconds.

A step by step video tutorial is included in the project to walk you through the process from start to finish. This useful and engaging video promo offers a professional look for promoting your content and unveiling your product.

Rounding Up…

Today’s customers place a lot of emphasis on all kinds of interaction that they have with brands. This is why you cannot afford to leave this process to chance. Whether the customer is visiting your website, storefront, viewing your ad, or trying to reach customer service, brands can drive lasting customer loyalty by leveraging fantastic customer experience.

With consistency, you can carve a niche and create unique experiences for your users.

These steps are just 5 of many other steps that you can take to ensure customer satisfaction. When your customers are satisfied, they will spread the word about your app and convince others to download it. And more importantly, they will trust your brand to deliver great products and services.

5 Simple Ways to Maximize Videos in Branding

branding.png

Marketing today is not what it used to be a decade ago. Brands now work with professionals to maximize the fantastic potentials that come with the developments in the world of marketing. However, branding is not that hard to understand, especially when you are doing it for your business.

There is a promise (or a set of obligations) that every business makes to its customers. The way these promises are delivered makes it easy for a one time customer to connect to the brand and become a consistent customer of a business.

This is how branding works and whether you like it or not, you have to be involved in creating that customer experience that your brand promises. Your brand's story has to be genuine, and it has to be told in the most effective ways possible.

In this article, we will look at 5 simple rules that will guide you to leverage the benefits of videos in promoting your brand identity. We will also look at the importance of having tools that can help you to gain the benefits of videos in branding.

Maximizing video in branding

In recent times, the way we consume content has significantly tilted towards the direction of motion pictures. We interact more with screens, and with developments like virtual reality, it is easier to sell unique experiences through videos.

Today, businesses compete for consumers' attention, who are always swarmed with a sea of options. This is why you need to effectively differentiate your brand and stand apart from your competitors.

Videos present an excellent storytelling medium that you can use to communicate ideas and share content relating to your brand. Videos combine sound, motion, and visuals to appeal to viewers' emotions and influence them to think of your brand in a certain way. The quality of the relationship between your brand and its audience can be significantly affected by video.

With great power comes greater responsibility. Therefore, you need to understand how to leverage the fantastic potential of videos.

Below are some fundamental rules that guide the use of video in branding:

Have a plan

When it comes to video marketing, consistency is the name of the game. You need to ensure that you understand your audience and then create a plan to reach them effectively. Things to consider while planning include; Audience demography, ideas, type of content, etc. Success in video marketing is not an overnight thing; you need to work with a solid strategy.

Another factor to consider is the social media platforms where your target audience is most active. This will guide you through creating appropriate kinds of videos that will help you achieve your goals across digital platforms.

Content is king

This is true for all kinds of marketing materials; the content of your videos will determine how people will react to it. To make a hit, you need to dish out quality/valuable content consistently. When you put out quality content, you will earn your audiences' trust as a knowledge base.

First impression is everything

The speed of the internet has caused many people to have a short attention span. This is why websites that fail to load within 2-3 seconds may witness lower traffic. Similarly, audiences are looking to get captured by the first 10 seconds of your video. Therefore, you need to focus on getting your audience’s attention from the first second of the video.

impression.jpeg

Call to action

While a great social media video may not be “sales-ish," you need to include a clear call to action. The goal of social media is to affect your audience and impact them. Therefore, you need to end it all with a compelling call to action. This works best after you have laid a solid foundation by creating videos with heart-swaying messages.

Leverage tools

Several video creation tools have been designed by Vdeesign to make it easy to create incredible videos in real-time.

Video editing tools are essential for brands in all industries as they provide much-needed post-production editing of videos. Some of these functions include; Trimming, Splicing, rearranging scenes, color manipulation, effects, and many more.

Apple just unveiled major upgrades to the iPhone, its own chips for the Mac, and much more. Here's everything Apple announced at its biggest event of the year

Apple_details_for_WWDC2020_06022020_big.jpg.large_2x.0.jpg

Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on Monday, where it announced new features for the iPhone and Apple Watch as well as the development of its own processors for the Mac.

From an empty Steve Jobs Theater on Apple's campus, company executives like CEO Tim Cook and Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, took the stage to detail what's next for the iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, and other major products. Apple typically hosts thousands of developers at the San Jose Convention Center for WWDC.

Among the biggest announcements of the day was the unveiling of iOS 14, Apple's next big software update for the iPhone. With iOS 14, Apple is introducing a new home screen that makes it easier to categorize apps in view more information at a glance, new features for Messages, and App Clips. That's a new feature that makes it possible to access certain features of an app without actually launching the full program.

Apple also took the wraps off its next Apple Watch update, which will include sleep tracking for the first time — a feature it's long been missing compared to Fitbit.

And in one of Apple's most significant shifts yet, the company announced that it will develop its own silicon for future Mac models rather than using Intel's chips.

Here's a closer look at everything Apple announced.

iOS 14, Apple's next big software update for the iPhone

Apple

Apple

Apple began the conference with the unveiling of iOS 14, it's the next major software update for the iPhone that brings a variety of new features.

Among the most noticeable changes is the new home screen for the iPhone, which has a new space called the App Library. These are folders that your iPhone creates automatically for grouping together apps by category, including Recently Added apps and Suggestions.

Apple is also making a big change to the way widgets look in iOS 14. Rather than having static uniform blocks on the Today panel, the new widgets will come in different sizes and offer much more data at a glance. You can also drag them over to the main home screen so that you can get to them more easily. It's the biggest change Apple has made to the home screen in years.

Apple is also launching App Clips, which lets you use a smaller, lighter version of an app for instance when you might need to use one specific feature rather than launching the full app.

Siri is also getting some updates in iOS 14, such as a new interface and more advanced translation features.

Many of Apple's apps are also getting refreshed with new features in iOS 14, including:

  • The option to pin conversations in Messages

  • The ability to mention someone specifically and reply to particular messages in group texts in Messages

  • Features in Apple Maps that are specific to cyclists

  • New customization options for Memoji, including face coverings

  • The ability to unlock your car with your iPhone

With iOS 14, you'll be able to add some more customizations, like a face mask, to your Memoji, the personalized emoji of your face.

Apple

Apple is breaking from Intel and making its own processor chips for Macs

Apple

Apple

Among the biggest announcements of the day was the revelation that Apple will start developing its own chips for Mac computers, called Apple Silicon, marking a big shift away from Intel.

Apple's chips will work in the same environment as those made for the iPhone and iPad, making it much easier for developers to create apps that work across all of the company's products.

The first computers to run on Apple's new chips will be launching by the end of 2020, Apple said, but it still has Intel-based computers in its pipeline as well.

It's a big step for Apple, and one that will give the company greater control over the features and performance of its future laptops and desktops.

Tracking sleep, hand-washing, and more with the Apple Watch

Apple

Apple

Apple's next major Apple Watch update, known as watchOS 7, will finally bring sleep tracking to the company's popular smartwatch.

The Apple Watch will use motion sensors, heart rate sensors, and microphones to gather sleep data and will remind users to charge their watch in the morning. The watch's display will turn off at night to conserve power while users sleep.

It's a noteworthy addition that brings the Apple Watch up to speed in one key area in which it's lagged behind rivals like Fitbit and Garmin.

Sleep tracking is the biggest new feature coming to the Apple Watch, but watchOS 7 will bring several other additions, such as:

  • New workout types like Dance

  • The ability to share watch faces with others. It looks like brands will be able to create watch faces too, which seems to be Apple's answer to third-party watch face stores like those offered by Fitbit.

  • The ability for developers to offer more than one complication per app

  • Automatic hand-washing detection

New features for iPad, like freeform writing, and surround sound for AirPods

Apple

Apple

Apple is also launching some new features for the iPad and AirPods as well. The biggest new addition coming to the iPad is a feature called Scribble, which lets you write in any text field with the Apple Pencil and automatically convert it to text.

iPad apps will also get a new sidebar for apps like Photos and Mail that make them easier to navigate. Plus, new iPhone features like the revamped widgets will also be coming to the iPad.

For AirPods, Apple is launching the ability to automatically switch between different devices, which should make it much easier to seamlessly jump between iPhone and iPad while wearing them. The AirPods Pro will also be getting support for spatial audio.

macOS Big Sur: The next big software update for the Mac

Apple

Apple

Apple's next major Mac software update will bring a new design, an updated version of Safari, and features that make the Mac feel even more similar to the iPhone and iPad.

Some of the new features coming in Big Sur include:

  • A new design with more depth, shading, and translucency as well as redesigned app icons

  • The same Control Center for adjusting settings as the one found on the iPhone and iPad

  • Updates to apps like Messages and Apple Maps that bring features that have been previously available on the iPhone version

  • A new version of Safari with a customizable home page, built-in translation, and a new privacy report, which lets users see how website are treating their data

Other updates to Apple TV and smart home devices

Apple

Apple

Apple also made some other announcements for products like Apple TV, such as:

  • Adaptive lighting for smart lights, a feature that makes it possible to automatically adjust the color temperature of HomeKit-enabled lights

  • Activity Zones for smart cameras, which makes it easier to specify a particular area that you'd like to receive alerts for (like your doorstep versus a busy street near your home).

  • Multi-user support for Apple TV

  • Picture-in-picture for Apple TV

  • A new Apple TV Plus original show called "Foundation," which is based on the novels by Isaac Asimov.

  • More privacy features for the iPhone, such as a requirement that developers self-report their privacy practices so that users can see how much data they're collecting and if they're sharing it with others.

Overall, the announcements indicate that Apple is making more of an effort than ever to make its products feel more uniform.

Apple

Apple

The updates coming to the iPhone and Mac suggest that Apple is trying to make its products feel more uniform while also offering more customization and flexibility. That's particularly evident in macOS Big Sur, which feels more like a mobile operating system than any version of macOS Apple has launched to date.

Apple's iPhone and Apple Watch updates also suggest it's catching up with rivals in many ways. The bigger, more customizable widgets come after Android phones have offered increased personalization of the home screen for years. And Apple is launching sleep tracking for the Apple Watch after Fitbit and others have long offered such capabilities.

7 Biggest Mistakes in Mobile App Marketing

app fail.jpg

Over the last two decades, there has been a tidal shift to mobile. Many of our favorite activities have been simplified, and today, we can do just about anything on our mobile devices. Today, there are more than 3 billion smartphone owners, making mobile apps more accessible. You can get access to apps that can do virtually anything that you can imagine.

The mobile community is robust, and it helps brands to communicate with audiences in real-time. This is why the competition in the mobile app market is at an all-time high. The market presents an opportunity for businesses to provide value to the customer.

When it comes to mobile app marketing, there are rules that you have to follow to find success. Traditionally, many people enjoy learning from successes; however, I discovered that failures (mistakes) provide an excellent avenue for learning, especially in marketing.

In this article, we will look at the seven most common mistakes in mobile app marketing. The goal is to help you avoid making these mistakes.

Failure to Conduct Sufficient research

Research is a critical aspect of any marketing. It provides essential insight into the market and helps you to make the right choices. Information (in this case, data) is power, and you need to gather enough information at all stages of your app marketing campaigns. For starters, you need to research about similar applications and how users responded to the app and its updates. You can also conduct researches to discover a stable market for your apps.

Without conducting the necessary research, you may miss out on crucial insights that can help you to position your application correctly.

Failure to Differentiate Between the Mobile and Desktop Experience

mobile.jpg

Simplicity and ease are some of the most common reasons why customers love the mobile experience. It provides users with real-time value and solutions to problems. With mobile, users expect that developers will focus attention on the core functionalities. However, some marketers mistakenly treat the mobile experience like it's the desktop. You need to ensure that your mobile app isn't just a smaller version of the desktop app; customers dislike that.

Mobile apps present an opportunity for brands to create unique experiences. This is why you need to focus on creating appropriate designs that simplify the user experience.

Failure to Maximize Appstore Optimization

aso.jpg

Every minute, thousands of users are searching for various kinds of applications on the app store. As a marketer, you need to ensure that you make your app visible to the target users. The process is somewhat cumbersome (as it requires consistency). However, ASO offers fantastic returns when it is done correctly.

App store optimization works the same way SEO works for visibility on search engines.

Failure to Create a Marketing Plan

marketing plan.jpg

We have seen the success stories of applications with high download numbers; this never happens by accident. A marketing plan is critical because it helps you to break your goals into amounts and processes. With a marketing plan, you can understand your company’s digital assets and maximize it to achieve desired results.

Your goal for your application will determine the specifics of your marketing plan. It would help if you also focused on finding as many app discovery paths as possible. It is never too early to start thinking of a marketing plan for your app.

Failure to Focus on Retention

retention.jpg

The lack of retention is a significant problem in the mobile app marketing scene. More than half of the people who download an application are gone within the first 60 months. This goes to show the importance of making plans on not just improving downloads but also retaining users. To ensure this, you need to consider building in-app communication tools for users.

Why should customers return to your app? It would be best if you found ways to create ongoing value for users. You need to develop ways to engage with users of your app and remind them of your app's existence on their device. Examples include; telling them of (free) updates, discounts, and so on. These are some of the critical elements that you need to consider to ensure steady retention.

Failure to Maximize Video Content

Rounding Up…

Mobile applications help us to make crucial decisions, and they have become a great way to connect with a broad audience. You need to ensure that you take out time to understand the solutions that your app will provide. If you can do that and avoid making the mistakes listed above, you're going to be good to go!

The Importance of Digital Video Marketing

It’s not too hard to see why video is so popular these days -- for one thing, it’s an easy-to-digest format that gives our eyes a rest from the overabundance of textual information online. This would be why the world reportedly watches 1 billion hours of YouTube social video per day.

And those of you who are headed towards digital marketing careers should have a complete understanding of the power of video as a marketing tool. This is not only because they might be interested in making amazing videos, but because they’ll probably have to learn to incorporate video into their content in order to remain competitive.

Here we’ll outline some best practices for digital marketers to create and share video and highlight 5 key reasons why video is so crucial to your marketing strategy.

Why Video?

Video is a versatile and engaging content format that not only gives us a real-life picture of what is going on; it’s also easy to share across multiple platforms. Consumers like it because it’s easy to digest, entertaining, and engaging, and marketers like it because it can give a potentially huge return on investment (ROI) through many channels.

Video is also very accessible to anyone with internet access, both to watch and to produce. While there is certainly a trend towards higher quality video on a professional level, anyone can hop onto their laptop and create their own video in under an hour.

Types of Video

types-of-video.jpg

There are plenty of different types of videos out there and part of creating an effective content marketing strategy is having a solid understanding of your purpose before you sit down and create the video (or any other type of content, for that matter). To that end, you want to make sure both the type of the video and the channel purpose (if you’re posting on social) fit the purpose of the video itself.

Here’s a breakdown of where you can be using different types of videos.

Explainers can help educate people about your product and can be used in conjunction with instructions, customer service activities, and a whole other range of applications.

Interviews can help to encourage conversation between sides or showcase a special guest or influencer. If you are creating videos featuring guest experts, for instance, you can always re-use the audio and market it as a podcast.

Product reviews and demo videos can be created by brand ambassadors in exchange for free products. If you can find people in your industry looking to boost their social following, this can be a great way of essentially getting free advertising. Doing this can also help you to find out information about the product if the people doing the video reviews have a lot of engagement and comments. So in a sense, it can function like market research.

Live video is the best chance to get up close and personal with your audience, and it works well on social channels in particular.

5 Stats that Prove Marketers Need Video

1. Informing and Educating

Hero-Illustration 1.png

97% of marketers claim that videos help customers understand products. (Hubspot)

For the most part, marketers today are no longer taking a pitching type of approach - the reason? There’s simply too much choice out there. Consumers and businesses simply don't’ need to be sold to; instead, they’re doing a quick internet search to find the best product in their neighborhood or even in the world where they’ll proceed to order it online.

To this end, marketers in many fields (perhaps not all) need to approach audiences with a value-based offer instead of a “sale.” And videos excel at giving customers a really up-close look at a product, service, or even an influencer or teacher.

2. Search Engine Optimization

Over 80% of all traffic will consist of video by 2021. (Cisco)

Search engines love videos because they see them as high-quality content, so to this end, using videos in various types of content as well as on your main web pages can work wonders for your SEO -- as long as the videos themselves are optimized properly as well. This means incorporating the right keywords, a solid meta description, and also a strong title.

3. Staying Competitive

81 % of businesses are now using video for marketing. (Hubspot)

Videos are amazing for getting all sorts of messages out there, and if we think in terms of practicality, a short, unique explainer video can do a world of difference when it comes to educating people on the ins and outs of your particular product. By using storytelling and unique types of media you can easily catch people’s attention and hold it while they’re actually entertained.

Depending on how it matches your product, you may want to use an animated or illustrated explainer video to stand out from the crowd (and not come across as too in-your-face).

4. Getting Personal

Live video will account for 13 % of traffic by 2021. (Cisco)

Ever wanted to check out Facebook Live or Instagram stories? If you’re in a digital marketing career, or you’re heading in that direction, you’ll need to learn how to create basic videos and optimize them.

Instagram Stories and Snapchat are both awesome for offering people intimate glimpses or short, personal glances of what you’re up to and they are so great for creative tools. The interesting thing about these videos is that they’re only up for 24-hours so that creates more of a real-time feel. It also gives marketers the opportunity to develop ads that are focussed on time-sensitive promotions.

Real-time, ephemeral content is great for:

  • Offering a feel of face-to-face interaction

  • Building brand trust

  • Offering audiences casual, interesting updates (eg: behind the scenes)

5. Boosting Conversions

90% of consumers claim a video will help them make a purchasing decision. (Social Media Today)

Wyzowl claims that 74% of people who get an opportunity to see a product in action via an explainer video will buy it. And landing pages are great places to place videos, too. -- supposedly boosting conversion rates by up to 80% (just be sure to keep autoplay off so as not to scare the customer away with loud noises).

Another reason why video is great for conversions on websites is that they actually keep people around for long enough to look around on the site. This is especially true for those who aren’t big readers (a good rule of thumb is to assume that people’s eyes could be tired from looking at a screen all day). Supposedly people watching a video stick around for some two whole minutes longer if there’s a video.

Tips for Best Practice Video Marketing

what-is-video-marketing.png

Okay, there you have some amazing reasons for incorporating video into your marketing activities or learning how to create awesome videos if you’re interested in digital marketing careers. But how do you actually go about making a video that’s engaging and optimized? Here are some tips.

First off, figure out what the ideal video length is for your platform - here’s what Hubspot recommends:

  • Instagram: 30 seconds

  • Twitter: 45 seconds

  • Facebook: 1 minute

  • YouTube: 2 minutes

Other things you’ll want to to to ensure the best engagement and accessibility as well as boost your SEO include using captions for autoplay and keeping the video on silent if it’s on a landing page. Videos on landing pages can be very effective but only if they don’t scare viewers away. You’ll also want to be sure to keep your video mobile-friendly across the board.

In order to understand how your videos are performing, practice good SEO standards, and always check your metrics. You can develop a standard library of various videos and keep them organized on YouTube, then incorporate them into various forms of content such as blogs and emails.

And don’t forget about your call-to-action, which on YouTube usually consists of a little annotation suggesting that users subscribe to your channel.

Conclusion

Video is one of the most popular content forms in the world and the truth is that it’s not likely to be going anywhere soon. And it makes sense: in an impersonal digital world, we’re craving connection and personality. We want to see and hear people in a real-life context -- it’s meaningful.

Video is not only fun, it’s really one of the best ways to get up close to your audience and give them a real glimpse of what you and your business or your clients are doing. The key here is to think beyond profit and product -- show them something about your philosophy, or share some information on an interesting event, or offer some valuable information. The more they know about your positive practices, the more likely they are to stick around.

15 Tech Leaders Share Their Favorite Apps And How They Impact Their Daily Lives

Businesswomanusingcellphonesendingvoicemail-5b293c9b119fa80037b3e16a.jpg

With the continuous presence of technology where everyone on the planet seems to be connected, apps have become an essential part of life. Many tech leaders would get dragged into a mire of complexity without access to their apps. From team communication to scheduling, applications provide functionality in the palm of a user's hand that was impossible before today's technologically advanced society.

What are some of the apps that tech leaders swear by when it comes to performing their primary tasks? These 15 experts from Forbes Technology Council weigh in on the apps that they consider to be the most important to their day-to-day activities, regardless of if they fall under work or leisure.

1. AnkiDroid

unnamed.png

This little free app helps you put any kind of knowledge into your long-term memory. You can use it to learn a foreign language, technical terms or any other kind of knowledge. It is completely customizable, runs via cloud on all of your devices and uses neuropsychological research to bring things up at exactly the moment you are going to forget them. This makes Anki super efficient. - Christoph Windheuser, thoughtworks.com

2. Any.do

projects.jpg

Everyone needs a to-do list and there are a bunch of options on the App Store, but I like Any.do because it's simple and very user friendly. Over the years, they have added so many options that it has evolved into a task manager with features for teams to effectively collaborate. Plus, they also provide integration with other favorite tools such as Slack, Siri, Alexa and WhatsApp. - Yogesh Kondaskar, Bizteon Software

Forbes Technology Council is an invitation-only community for world-class CIOs, CTOs and technology executives. Do I qualify?

3. Asana

179c58.png

Asana has to be one of the best apps in the world. It has helped me organize both my professional and personal life while allowing me to include others as part of my process. With the ability to create various committees, share calendars, create projects, assign tasks, and set deadlines while also restricting access for your committee members, Asana is an integral part of my daily life. - Junior Bernadin, The Ron Clark Academy

4. Audible

Is-Audible-Worth-It-Audible-Review-Thumbnail.jpg

With a busy schedule, Audible allows me to practice “the five-hour rule.” That is five hours a week or one hour each working day is focused on learning. I can listen to great books and studies in the car, while running or during a break. It is very motivating to have a world of experts at your fingertips. - Will Conaway, Will Conaway IT Consulting

5. DotHabit

DotHabit is a cool app that lets you track your daily habits. It's incredibly simple—just create the daily habits you want to track, like exercising, drinking water, etc., and then add a dot to each day you perform the good habit. It's a great way to stay on track and keep up with your progress. - Thomas Griffin, OptinMonster

6. Elevate

I regularly use Elevate—it's a "brain training app designed to help you stay sharp, build confidence and boost productivity.” I love it because it's a relaxing way to play a game while still sharpening your skills. - Neha Sampat, Contentstack

7. Evernote

web-spaces-overview.jpg

I've been using Evernote in a non-traditional way for years now. I pay for the premium plan with tons of storage, which I take advantage of for categorizing tax receipts as they occur. If I make a donation to a charity or receive a K-1 in the mail from an investment, I take a picture and put it in my “Tax Folder" as a new note. Then I share the folder with my accountant and don't have to scramble every April. - Jeff Valentine, CloudCheckr

8. Flipboard

There's no better pleasure than flipping through an endless magazine of personalized news, articles and information. I find myself gaining new interests and more information by using Flipboard during downtime than I ever could with social media apps. For my money, Flipboard is king when it comes to news aggregation, user experience and a pleasurable interface. - Tom Roberto, Core Technology Solutions

9. Google Calendar

The app on the top left of my home screen is Google Calendar. I am in and out of it multiple times per day. It's the first thing I check in the morning and usually the last thing I check at night. In all areas of my life, I'd be lost without Google Calendar. - Steve Semelsberger, Testlio

10. Headspace

unnamed.jpg

I use an app called Headspace to do a quick 10- or 15-minute meditation every morning. I usually get up at 6 a.m. and I do an immediate meditation when I am there alone to just clear my head and start the day fresh. I have been using it the last year and have started feeling very fresh since the beginning. - Christopher Carter, Approyo

11. Mint

I have all my financial data in one spot. I check Mint daily to ensure that I can see anomalies in spending, my current cash amount and net worth, how my investments are doing and my credit score. I can set budgets, look at habits and trends and figure out ways to reduce my out-of-pocket spending every day, month or year. Everything is consolidated into one app, reducing my need to log onto every individual app. - James Carder, LogRhythm

12. Password Boss

Password-Boss-v5.png

Password Boss is one of the best productivity apps in IT. Entering a password may be a five-second affair, and Password Boss may save you three seconds of that, but those three seconds add up. It also helps increase security at no cost to convenience. There are other similar password managers to consider depending on what you do, but Password Boss is the main one I've used. - Tim Conkle, The 20

13. Slack

I use Slack just with myself. I know it sounds weird, but it works like a charm. All my notes are just in my Slack channels and then when I work on my stuff, I get out everything I need from Slack into the general work streams. For the record, we use Microsoft Teams as a company. - Paroon Chadha, Passageways

14. Waze

Commuting in a big city is no joke. One wrong turn in rush hour can cost you hours of your day and add a heap of unnecessary stress to your life. Waze simplifies this by helping me bypass all of the obstructions and backups so I can get where I need to go smoothly and efficiently. Try it out. I guarantee you’ll keep using Waze after it trims chunks of time off your next trip. - Marc Fischer, Dogtown Media LLC

15. WhatsApp

Knowingly or unknowingly, WhatsApp has become the de facto tool for our communication with family, friends and colleagues. We use WhatsApp to share moments with friends/family and for entertainment by reading or watching forwarded messages. We use WhatsApp groups to discuss and prioritize our work. - Viplav Valluri, Fastlane Americas, Inc.

Without a communications plan, the process may get complicated and will likely affect your brand’s reputation.

Effective communication strategies are crucial in a time like this to ensure transparency. In this article, we will take a look at some tips with which you can effectively communicate with your audience during a crisis.

How Often do I Need to Communicate and Where?

When it comes to brand communication, you have to be thoughtful, strategic, and fluid. There is also a need to strike a balance when it comes to the frequency of your brand’s communication. This frequency depends on your industry and the type of business that you operate. You need to ensure to leave out irrelevant information and focus on making announcements that affect customers. In the absence of such statements, then you may concentrate on dispelling informational and supportive messages.

With social distancing measures around the world, you are likely to communicate with your audiences online. The platforms to use largely depend on the kind of information that you are trying to convey and the preferences of your target audience.

This period also provides a unique opportunity for you to become (or maintain your position as) authority in your sector. Various media channels have become more functional, as more customers are looking for directives and updates from reliable sources.

Tips for Effective Communication During a Crisis

1.       Focus On Your Audience

focus.jpg

Your communication strategies during this period need to focus on (potential) clients. You must find out ways to provide value to your audience by concentrating on their needs. It would be best if you found out how you can assist them and help them get through each day. Your messaging has to be helpful and relevant to both your current clients and those whom you hope to convert over time.

2.     Transparency Is Key

Transparency is a crucial part of brand communication during a crisis. You need to ensure that you communicate with clear intentions and maintain sincerity.

3.     Visuals Are Most Effective

It is no news that visual data are easier to grasp as they stimulate human imagination—the human brain processes visual information about 60,000 times faster than text. When data is presented visually, then it is easier for your audience to remember.

20 Ideas to Promote Your Mobile App for Free

1_8HNcdGnju7uuXZsBwzDFCQ.png

App promotion – a key element of every successful app launch

204 billion mobile apps were downloaded in 2019 and the app market is constantly growing. The competition for the user’s attention is fierce – if you want to stand out from the crowd not only will you have to build an outstanding product, but also come up with an effective app promotion strategy.

While promotion is a key component of a successful app launch, it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Here are 20 ideas for free app promotion.

How to promote an app for free?

Don’t worry if you have limited resources to promote your app. There are plenty of ways for free app promotion. However, ‘free’ doesn’t mean no work will be required on your end – quite the opposite, but you don’t have to pay for exposure.

1. Optimize your app for the app store

A lot of app searches are performed on Google Play (53%) or on the Apple Store (47%). This makes app store optimization crucial to ensure your app is easily discoverable. Here are a few things you should keep in mind while optimizing your app. Pick the right app name, write an appealing app description, include relevant keywords, and prepare app screenshots or videos.

2. Create a landing page

A good idea for mobile app marketing is to build a landing page. It will give you a chance to better communicate the benefits associated with your app, address any questions that your target users might have, and include testimonials that will boost your credibility. Creating a landing page will also make your app discoverable by search engines – this can constitute a great source of leads.

3. Ask customers for reviews

Ask your users to leave you a review on Google Play or on the App Store. Positive reviews drive purchasing decisions and have a direct impact on the app store algorithms – they enhance your credibility and position in search results. You can also consider other review sites like G2Crowd, Capterra, or Serchen – remember to respond to each review.

4. Create unique content

Create content related to your mobile app. You can publish it on your blog. If you don’t have one, you can turn to Medium. Creating content is a great way to bring more traffic to your website as well as build brand awareness and credibility.

5. Produce guest posts

Find high authority blogs that are relevant to your niche and try to get an article published on one of them. Not only will you be able to share your knowledge, but you will also earn a few backlinks to your website. The more backlinks you have, the better your positioning on Google. In the long term, this should help you with lead generation.

6. Take advantage of social media

Promote your app on social media. Select channels that your audience is the most active on. Share any updates about your app among other useful content for your target audience.

7. Join groups on social media

There are many groups on LinkedIn and Facebook where you can share content and, as a result, promote your app for free. Bear in mind that frequently it’s not allowed to share promotional content within groups, so stick with educational content. Save your sales/marketing messaging for your LinkedIn or Facebook company page.

8. Get featured on a podcast

Podcasts are growing in popularity – as of January 2020, there are over 900k podcasts available on iTunes, while there are over 1 billion blogs worldwide. This makes the podcasting space less competitive than written content – take advantage of it while it lasts. Select a few podcasts that your target audience listens to and try to get featured as a guest speaker. It’s a great way to spread the word about your app to a large audience for free.

9. Create an email signature

Emails are still a popular communication tool, with people sending 246.5 billion emails a day. Not including a link to your app in your email signature is a missed opportunity for generating leads. 91% of people check their emails daily, so include a link to your app in your email signature to boost your brand’s visibility.

10. Attend online meetups and webinars

Attend online events where you can either be a speaker or where you can at least talk to people who could be your potential prospects.

11. Get featured in blog articles

Do you recall some of the articles written around “the best tools for”? Try to get mentioned in one of those. Focus on brands with high domain authority – they usually rank better on Google, which means more traffic to your app.

12. Feature your app on Product Hunt

Product Hunt is full of app enthusiasts. Promoting your app on Product Hunt will not only allow you to gain a lot of exposure but it can also become a great source of leads. Especially if your app is placed in the top 3 products of the day.

RobinHood, a cost-free and commission-free brokerage app, is one of PH’s success stories. The campaign contributed to RobinHood getting $176 million in total funding.

13. Use referrals

Create a referral system to encourage your existing users to invite their friends to download your app. You can include a “refer a friend” button in your app and offer users rewards for each referral. The previously mentioned Robin Hood offers one free share of stock for each new friend who joins the app – the referrer could get a stock worth between $2 and $200.

14. Use app directories

List your mobile app in one or a few app directories such as appchatter, androidapplog, apps400, preapp. The higher the number of listings your app is on, the higher the chance of getting discovered by potential users.

15. Partner with other apps

Another idea for successful app promotion is partnering with apps that are complementary to yours. For instance, if you sell a survey app, then you could partner with a  brand selling a Customer Relationship Management platform. You can do a cross-promotion – they could feature your app in the newsletter sent to their customer base and you could do the same for them.

16. Release a demo video

Nowadays marketing revolves around video. According to a study by Hubspot, 54% of consumers would like to see more video content from brands they like and support. If you want to gain more attention, create a 30-second video showing how users can benefit from your app, promote it on your social media channels, and include it on your website.

17. Submit your app for rewards

How else can you market your app? You can enter a mobile app competition like the Best Mobile App Awards. Not only will it allow you to get more exposure, but if you win, it will also boost your credibility. Here are a few competitions you can consider:

  • Appy Awards

  • Best Mobile App Awards

  • Appsters Awards

  • Apple Design Awards

  • Best App Ever Awards

18. Get involved in forums

Show off your expertise by answering questions on forums related to your market. You can try to find relevant questions on Quora – it has over 300 million active users, with over 35% of Americans declaring they use Quora. Avoid answering questions that have too many responses, as your visibility will be limited. Focus on questions with a high following but few answers.

19. Team up with influencers

I know what you’re thinking: “involving influencers will cost me a fortune”. Only if you decide to cooperate with business celebrities, which is not required. You can instead work with micro-influencers or tech enthusiasts who have a decent social media following.

Get them interested in your app, if they decide to use it and they like it, they might review your app and post it on their social media channels.

20. Pitch to App Store editors

You can try to pitch your app to App Store curators to have it featured in the “Today” tab. Bear in mind that they receive thousands of pitches daily, so you have to ensure your pitch is carefully crafted. Outline what your app does and what’s unique about it.

While reviewing apps, Apple editors pay attention to high app quality, sleek design, and good storytelling. If you’re lucky enough to get selected, you can count on a large number of impressions, click-throughs, and installs.

Use various techniques to boost your app exposure for free

Building an outstanding mobile app doesn’t guarantee success – you still have to put time and effort into promoting it. Luckily, it doesn’t have to strain your marketing budget, as there are plenty of free app promotion tactics that you can use. One of the most beneficial ones is optimizing your app for app stores, as the majority of consumers search for apps on Google Play and App Store.

Show off your expertise by answering questions on forums like Quora, creating content relevant to your niche and sharing it on social media. Getting positive customer reviews and submitting your app for awards will have a positive impact on your brand image as it will boost your credibility.
